Hard to find wood products

Years of experience in the lumber business have developed a specialty at Everhart in hard-to-find wood products. Our customers have come to rely on our knowledge and contacts in the industry to come up with the unusual, the unique, and the distinctive wood products they are seeking.
For the customer who planned a complex of buildings and wanted them to look weathered by time, Everhart supplied wood construction materials for structural, exterior, and interior applications, as the photo collage illustrates.

Specialty wood species and reclaimed wood have earned Everhart Lumber Company a widespread reputation for turning out hard-to-find wood products. Reclaimed lumber from a pre-Civil War era log cabin, 1800s cotton mill, and early 1900s tobacco barns (including wormy chestnut) are examples of items available at Everhart. Douglas-fir, walnut, cedar and pine wood products are also a specialty. See how rhododendron branches create rustic spindles for a wood railing - the options are many.

Please call for availability and price quotes on these products.

Poplar Bark Siding

Locally harvested, Poplar Bark Siding is an Everhart Lumber Company specialty product. This green-building product can also be classified as a reclaimed building material because it comes from the part of the tree that would normally go to waste after the tree has been harvested for lumber. Poplar bark is now enjoying a renewed life of its own for exterior and interior applications.
North American Indians used the bark siding more than 500 years ago. Modern use of bark dates to the 1800s in several areas but was noticeably very popular in the early 1900s in the Banner Elk and Linville areas of North Carolina. Interest in this product greatly increased after it was featured on the HGTV's Dream Home 2006 as a natural exterior siding. Today uses include exterior siding and porch railing applications and interior use for cabinets, furniture, home decor, and wall paneling. Fireplaces framed with mountain stone can be greatly enriched by including bark paneling in the designs above the mantle area, as seem in the "Northern Exposure" rental cabin on the Timbercreek Cabin Rental Program near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The Poplar Bark creates a true natural look that lends a distinctive character to the rustic type home or lodge as well to commercial structures. Because of the rich and deeply textural look, the bark siding is very popular with both builders and architects. Appealing also to users is the fact that the siding can last 75 or more years without any painting or sealant if applied correctly. Bark siding is kiln-dried to reduce moisture content, which increases its long-term integrity and strength. This reduces the chance of shrinking, cracking, staining and decaying. Kiln-drying also reduces the susceptibility of insect infestation.

We will be glad to sell you a small amount of bark for home decor use as well as medium to larger amount that could cover part of an interior wall... or the entire exterior of your home as seen in the "Wet Your Whistle" rental cabin.

Please visit our online Customer Gallery to see examples of the many uses our customers have found for the bark. Because bark can only be harvested in late spring and early summer, supply can be limited. Please contact us as early as possible for a price quote and availability on this seasonable product.
